The Tosa is a large, short-coated dog with a stately manner and a robust, powerful and agile body. The head is large and broad with a boxy muzzle, wrinkled, pendulous flews and a clearly observable dewlap. The preferred color of the Tosa is deep, solid, rich red. A quality Tosa is not judged by its size, but by its character. The mature female Tosa stands at least 21 3/4 inches and a mature Tosa male stands at least 23 1/2 inches.
